WHAS Radio, Mayor says SummerWorks really works

An audio clip

Date Published: 7/16/2013

Mayor Fischer declares his "SummerWorks" program, which helps teens and young adults find summer employment, a big success in its 3rd year. Fischer says in 2013, the program's helped about 15 hundred young people get jobs.

He says the program's been successful despite having to be re-tooled when federal dollars that used to fund it dried up. The Mayor says he turned to local companies to privately run it, and each of them stepped up to begin offering summer jobs. Among the companies taking part are Thornton's, GSI Commerce, Norton Healthcare, General Electric, Ford, Amazon, Kroger, UPS and Walmart.
