Courier-Journal, Local job training funds available for Louisville area adults

For the first time in more than a year, federal dollars are available to Louisville area adults wanting to upgrade their skills for in-demand jobs, ranging from medical assisting to industrial maintenance to accounting.

KentuckianaWorks, the local workforce investment agency, began giving out scholarships for training programs, such as associates degrees, last week. It has about $800,000 to spend, which could help 250 to 300 people who were recently laid off or are stuck in low-wage jobs obtain degrees or workforce credentials, executive director Michael Gritton said.
