The economy has hit a soft spot, adding only 54,000 jobs in May. Louisville's jobless rate is 9.6 percent, slightly higher than the national average of 9.1 percent.

"Companies are not going to spend money to expand and hire people unless they are pretty certain that the next six months to 12 months is going to be 'steady as she goes'," said KentuckianaWorks Executive Director Michael Gritton.
