Local businesses and individuals have contributed $400,000 for SummerWorks2011, a summer jobs program for Louisville youth ages 16 to 21. Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer has asked for another $100,000 in his proposed 2011-12 budget.

Fischer announced the program during January’s State of the City address and asked the business community for a commitment of funds and jobs. Companies that answered the call include Humana Inc., Yum Brands Inc., Norton Healthcare Inc., Caldwell Tanks Inc., General Electric Inc. and Mr. and Mrs. David Jones Sr., the mayor said in a news release.
